Uzbekistan and Seed Fair
Uzbekistan is the center of Central Asia with a surface area of 447,400 km2 and a population of 36 million. It is a geography with a population of approximately 3.5 - 4 billion, including its neighboring countries.
Uzbekistan has a production area of 2,000,000 hectares for field crops, 223,000 hectares for fruit growing, 4000 hectares for vegetable cultivation (greenhouse), and 348,000 hectares for vegetable cultivation (open field). Cotton and wheat are strategic products in Uzbekistan. However, in recent years, there has been a rapid increase in the cultivation areas of fruits, vegetables, corn, sunflower and soybeans. In Uzbekistan, 30% of the population is engaged in agriculture.
Considering the size of Uzbekistan and the Asian market, seeds, which are the main material of agricultural production, gain great importance. Uzbekistan imports especially fruits, vegetables, corn, sunflowers, soybeans, forage plant seeds and ornamental plant materials.
Türkiye's 2.4 million dollar seed exports to Uzbekistan in 2020 increased to 6.1 million dollars in 2021 and 7.4 million dollars in 2022.
Within the scope of this information, we decided to organize the "International Seed Fair" in Tashkent, which is the center of Central Asia, between 07-09 November 2024.
